The Culinary Training Program


The culinary training program will encompass a broad range of business and culinary skills training: from baking to budgeting, refugees and at-risk youth will gain the resources and education to thrive in the real world.



 Program Details:


  • Participants are recruited and selected through a competitive interview and application process  

  • 6 months total

  • Part I: 12 weeks of hands-on skills training in the kitchen

  • Part II: 12 weeks of in-house apprenticeship training at one of our partner restaurants

  • 12 participants per cohort

  • 4 cohorts per year (48 participants/year)

  • Business, life skills, and career management workshops

  • Training in the requirements of the State of Utah’s Department of Health - Food Handler’s Permit

  • Post-completion career development and support


 Eligibility Requirments:


  • At least 18 years old

  • Eligible for employment in the USA

  • Either unemployed or underemployed

  • Availability from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm, Monday through Friday

  • Strong interest in a career within the food/hospitality industry

  • No outstanding arrest warrants

  • Must have reliable transportation (TRAX, car, etc.)

  • 120 days drug-free before the first day of class

  • Willing to undergo random drug screenings throughout training

  • Able to lift 50 pounds with reasonable accommodation

Monthly Community Dinner Party:


On the second Thursday of every month, we host a dinner party featuring one of our chefs. Learn more about social issues in Utah while enjoying traditional foods prepared by a culinary training program participant. Tickets are $25.00. Please RSVP on our event page. Participation is capped at 20 guests.



Cooking Classes:


Are you interested in learning to cook food from around the world? Beginning in winter 2019, we will offer monthly lessons in traditional food preparation taught by refugee participants. Join us for a night of food, culture and hands-on learning!  Participation is capped at 15 attendees.
